Where to Buy Bitcoin in Markham (2026 Guide) | The Coin Shack
Where to buy Bitcoin in Markham
If you live or work in Markham, you have three realistic ways to buy Bitcoin: in person at a local shop, online with Interac e-Transfer, or at a Bitcoin ATM. They differ a lot in cost and in how much help you get. Here is how they compare, written by the team at The Coin Shack, a Bitcoin shop in Markham since 2019.
TL;DR
- Cheapest: buy online by Interac e-Transfer, 2.35% fee already in the price, Bitcoin sent to your own wallet.
- Want help or cash? Visit our store at 238 Copper Creek Dr, Markham (Box Grove, near the 407). Cash buys under $1,000 need no ID.
- Skip Bitcoin ATMs: fees of 6% to 15% or more are common.
- First time? Come in and we set up your wallet with you, free.
Option 1: buy in person at a Markham store
The Coin Shack is at 238 Copper Creek Dr in east Markham (Box Grove, near Donald Cousens Parkway and Highway 407). You can walk in with cash, or book a time if you want someone to sit down with you.
Cash buys under $1,000 need no ID. Our cash rate starts at 6.00% over the market price for $100 to $999, and drops to 4.50% from $1,000 and 3.50% from $5,000. The current table is on our store page.
The big advantage of going in person is help: we set up a Bitcoin wallet on your phone with you, show you how to back it up, and send your Bitcoin straight to it while you watch.
Option 2: buy online by Interac e-Transfer
If you already have a wallet, buying online is the cheapest way. With a free Coin Shack account you pay from your own bank by Interac e-Transfer and we send the Bitcoin to your wallet, usually within an hour of your e-Transfer arriving. Our fee is 2.35%, already included in the price you see. We pay the Bitcoin network fee (want it faster? You can choose a $2 or $5 speed-up). See Buy Online.
You verify your ID once when you sign up, as Canadian law requires. Daily limits start at $999.99 and go up to $5,000 once you complete Level 2 verification.
Option 3: a Bitcoin ATM
There are Bitcoin ATMs in Markham plazas and convenience stores. They are quick, but they are usually the most expensive option: fees of 6% to 15% or more are common, on top of a markup in the exchange rate. Use our Bitcoin ATM fee calculator to see what that means for your amount.
Never use a Bitcoin ATM because someone on the phone told you to. Scammers often ask victims to pay "fees", "fines" or "bail" through crypto ATMs. No government agency, bank or police service will ever ask you to pay in Bitcoin.
Which one should you pick?
- First time, or you want help with a wallet: visit the store.
- You have a wallet and want the lowest fee: buy online by e-Transfer.
- Buying $10,000 or more: talk to our OTC Desk for a quote for your size.
- Just curious and want a friend to start too: send them a free wallet setup.
